Frequently Asked Questions
Who might benefit from therapy or coaching?
Therapy or coaching can be helpful for anyone seeking personal growth, emotional support, or guidance through a life transition. People often reach out for help with anxiety, depression, stress, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, grief, or career concerns. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit. Many people work with a therapist or coach to improve overall wellbeing and gain clarity in their lives.
What is the difference between therapy and coaching?
Therapy focuses on emotional healing and mental health, often addressing past experiences and diagnosing mental health conditions. Coaching is goal-oriented and focuses on the present and future. It helps you clarify goals, develop strategies, and stay accountable. While both are supportive relationships, therapy is more clinical, and coaching is more action-based.
What happens during the first session?
The first session is an opportunity to get to know each other and determine if we are a good fit. You will be invited to share what brings you in and what you hope to gain. We will review your history, discuss your goals, and outline how our work together can support you. You are welcome to ask any questions you have about the process.
How long will therapy or coaching last, and how often will sessions occur?
The length and frequency of sessions depend on your goals and preferences. Many people start with weekly sessions and adjust over time. Some goals may take a few sessions, while others may require longer-term work. We will regularly check in on your progress to make sure the approach is still working for you.
How do I know if a therapist or coach is a good fit for me?
It is important to feel comfortable, understood, and respected. A good fit often means you feel safe to be yourself and can speak openly. During the first few sessions, notice how you feel in the space and whether the style and communication feel supportive. It is okay to try a few different professionals to find the right match.
Why don’t you accept all insurance plans or work in-network?
There are many reasons why some providers do not take insurance. Working outside of insurance gives you more privacy, flexibility, and control over your care. Insurance companies often limit session numbers or require a diagnosis, which may not be appropriate for all clients. We are happy to provide superbills for potential reimbursement if your plan allows it.
What are your fees, and do you offer sliding scale options?
Fees vary depending on the type of service and session length. A limited number of sliding scale slots may be available based on financial need. Please reach out directly to discuss current rates and availability. Payment is typically due at the time of service.
Is therapy or coaching confidential? What are the limits of confidentiality?
Yes, your sessions are confidential. Information shared will not be disclosed without your written consent. However, there are a few legal exceptions. These include situations involving harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse, or a court order. If you have concerns about privacy, we are happy to discuss this in more detail.
Do you offer in-person sessions, virtual sessions, or both?
Depending on your needs and location, both in-person and virtual sessions may be available. Virtual sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. Many clients appreciate the flexibility of online sessions, while others prefer face-to-face meetings. We can work together to find the best format for you.
What should I expect and how can I prepare for a session?
Come as you are. You do not need to have everything figured out. Sessions are a space for you to explore, reflect, and be supported. You might want to jot down thoughts, goals, or questions beforehand, but it is not required. The most important thing is showing up and being open to the process.
It’s important to find a therapist that’s a good fit.
